INDEPENDENCE DAY: HOPEFUL BIRTHDAY

July 4, 1776, was the original and official birthday of the United States of America. It will be celebrated today in many ways. Typical activities include outdoor games, a backyard cookout, patriotic parade, musical program, prayers for the nation, and a finale of fireworks after a fun hot day.

At the first Independence Day there was less frivolity and lots more praying. Independence would be hard-fought and hard-won. It was serious business to add one’s signature to the Declaration of Independence. America’s founding fathers risked all to gain freedoms taken for granted by many today.

American citizens, as you play and celebrate this holiday, give some thought to the costs of freedom, offer thanks to the Sovereign God Who raised up this land of liberty, then consider the responsibilities of maintaining such a nation. America is only the land of the free because of the brave.

Today is a hopeful birthday as long as Americans remember to live with hope in our hearts and to promote freedom in the world. God bless America… more importantly America, bless God.
